What we're building next
Trailhead already covers the essentials: free workout recording, local history, maps, weekly totals, GPX portability, and encrypted manual backup. Premium adds a trusted Circle for private, end-to-end encrypted activity sharing.
That foundation stays put. The next chapter is about helping you understand more, explore farther, and train with the people you choose—without turning your activity history into our database.
The roadmap moves from personal understanding to exploration and carefully chosen collaboration.
1. Personal Insights
Your history should become more useful as it grows. Personal Insights will add records, matched-route comparisons, custom goals, longer-term trends, and transparent training-load guidance. The calculations happen on your phone, using your encrypted history, with clear explanations instead of opaque scores or medical claims.
2. Your Personal Atlas
Your Personal Atlas will turn completed activities into a private map of the places you have covered: new streets and trails, favorite routes, sport and date filters, and yearly recaps. There is no global heatmap. Anything that leaves the phone does so through an export you choose, with controls to hide sensitive parts of a route.
3. Offline Adventure Tools
For days beyond cell service, Trailhead will add route planning, GPX route following, downloadable maps, elevation and surface previews, wrong-turn alerts, sensible rerouting, and route-aware weather and daylight. Free recording and GPX import and export remain free; Premium adds the tools that help guide the trip.
4. Private Live Safety
Private Live Safety will let you share live position, progress, an expected finish, and simple check-ins with selected trusted people for one activity. Sessions will be end-to-end encrypted, short-lived, and designed to expire automatically. It is a useful connection to someone you trust—not a monitored emergency service or a promise of rescue.
5. Private Challenges
Challenges should feel like encouragement from friends, not performance for strangers. Invitation-only goals will cover distance, time, elevation, exploration, and consistency. Only the progress you select will be shared, through encrypted delivery. There will be no public discovery, contact upload, or global leaderboard.
6. Gear Intelligence
Trailhead will help track shoes, bikes, and other equipment alongside the activities that use them. Distance and time totals, maintenance schedules, cost per use, and wear reminders will stay in your encrypted local vault—without affiliate ads or an uploaded gear profile.
7. Coach Mode
Coach Mode will create a focused space for one trusted coach or knowledgeable friend. You will choose the workouts, goals, plans, effort notes, and comments to share. Trailhead will not expose your full history by default or build a coach directory; every exchange stays inside the same encrypted relationship boundary as Circle.
New capabilities can cross the boundary only when you choose a recipient and approve the exchange.
More ways to bring Trailhead with you
HealthKit and Health Connect import and export will make it easier to move activity data between the health tools already on your phone. Apple Watch and Wear OS companions will bring recording controls, live metrics, offline buffering, and reliable transfer back to the phone-owned vault. We will also assess the best private path for Garmin devices.
An optional managed encrypted backup will add convenience without weakening the free manual backup. Archives will be encrypted on the phone, and Trailhead will never receive the recovery secret needed to open them.
The rule that does not change
More features do not require more surveillance. Personal analysis stays local. Features involving another person use deliberate, end-to-end encrypted sharing. Public profiles, global heatmaps, open leaderboards, and a readable social graph are not part of the plan.
Your miles. Your map. Your data—even as Trailhead grows.
